What are the potential side effects of HA dermal filler injections?
You may experience post-injection reactions. Potential side effects related to the implantation of the filler occur immediately following the injection or after a delay. These include, among others, 4-15
i) local manifestations such as inflammatory reactions (erythema, oedema, pain at the injection site), haematomas, itching, temporary loss of sensitivity around the injected area, dyschromia, abscesses, indurations, nodules (possibly granulomas), migration of the implant;
ii) general manifestations such as immediate hypersensitivity up to anaphylactic shock.
iii) In the case of patient having cutaneous disorders, inflammation, or infection at or near the treatment site. Injection procedures can lead to reactivation of latent or subclinical herpes viral infections.
Rare but serious adverse events associated with the intravascular injection of soft tissue fillers in the face have been reported and include temporary or permanent vision impairment or blindness, skin necrosis and stroke.18
